Lesson 5 of 5
Building the next 5 years, not just the next paycheck
Every other course here is deliberately focused on the near term -- this paycheck, this bill, this debt, this savings goal -- because that's where financial problems actually happen and get solved. But a plan that only ever looks at the next paycheck will keep you financially stable without ever moving you toward bigger, longer-term goals. Once a quarter or so, it's worth deliberately zooming out: is your net worth trending the direction you want? Is your financial-freedom number and date (from earlier in this course) still realistic, or does it need adjusting based on a raise, a life change, or a shift in your investments? Are your goals in Paycheck Planner still the right goals, or has something changed? This doesn't require a major overhaul each time -- most quarters, the answer is "keep doing what you're doing." But the few times it isn't, catching it during a quarterly check-in is far better than catching it years later, when a course correction is a lot bigger than it needed to be. That's really what financial freedom becomes in practice: not a single moment you arrive at, but the ongoing habit of steering deliberately instead of drifting.
